Drug Uses

Levitra is a phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitor, used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence). Application of Levitra tablets provides relaxation of the penile smooth muscles and increases the blood inflow to the penis.

During clinical trials, Levitra proved to cause an increase in blood pressure, however without significant rise in the heart rate or leading to other clinical effects. This drug helps men achieve an erection necessary for sexual intercourse, thus Levitra does not increase sex drive.

Therapy of erectile dysfunction (ED) is recommended to be started with a dose of Levitra 10 mg, at the average, one hour before expected sexual activity. Clinical data have demonstrated that the drug efficacy after intake remains for 4-5 hours. If necessary, a Levitra dose can be increased up to 20 mg, or reduced to 5 mg per day. The maximum recommended dose is one tablet of Levitra a day.

Missed Dose

Levitra is used to treat ED in men aged above 18 years, and elderly. For treatment of ED in elderly patients (65 years and older) and patients with moderate hepatic impairment, the recommended daily dose is 5 mg of Levitra.

For maximum effectiveness of the treatment of ED, the penis should be sexually stimulated, and any stressful situations to be avoided. Food intake does not affect the drug efficacy, so men can take Levitra tablets regardless of meals.

Storage
Levitra tablets should be protected from moisture, light and freezing and should be stored at room temperature below 25°C, out of reach of children.

As Levitra provides a vasodilator action and causes mild and transient decreases in blood pressure, this drug should be taken with caution in the patients with heart valve disease, heart problems like angina or irregular heartbeats. Application of Levitra may cause prolonged painful erections (priapism) in some patients.
