Drug Uses

Voltaren is a drug of the NSAID group. Voltaren has analgesic, antipyretic, antiinflammatory effects, and is used to control the symptoms and signs of arthritic conditions. Voltaren is prescribed to patients suffering from rheumatism, bursitis, tendonitis, Bekhterev syndrome, gout flare, primary dysmenorrhea and other disorders, caused by inflamed tissues, tendons or joints.

Voltaren is also used to control pain of varying severity, especially pain, caused by inflammatory processes. Short-term Voltaren therapy helps in pains, caused by teeth extraction or minor surgery.

Voltaren should be taken for managing osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis in a dosage of 100 to 200mg per day in several divided doses. Treatment of other arthritic conditions may require a decrease or an increase in the daily dosage.

Missed dose

Do not take a double dose Voltaren to compensate for the missed one. Just do not take extra anti-inflammatory drugs, if you missed the prescribed Voltaren dosage. Simply return to the regular dosing schedule.

More Information

Analgesic, antipyretic, antiinflammatory effects of Voltaren begin declining 4-5 hours after a dose intake. The optimal dosing schedule should be adjusted depending on individual needs. In addition to the usual Voltaren doses of 100-125mg per day, the patients that are going through the treatment of Bekhterev syndrome may be prescribed an extra dose (25 mg) before bedtime.

Storage

The nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug Voltaren should be stored in a cool, dry place and out of reach of children. The recommended storage temperature is below 30°C.

Warnings

When patients with already known heart disease use Voltaren tablets, their risk of an insult or a heart attack increases. The lowest effective dose of the anti-inflammatory drug Voltaren should be used to reduce these risks.

Voltaren Side Effects

Adverse effects of Voltaren are usually mild, and manifest only in 10% of patients. The most common unpleasant events, arising in treatment with this nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, are: decreased appetite, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, flatulence, nausea, anaemia, heartburn, indigestion, vomiting, headache, dizziness, insomnia, fever, rash, or vertigo.
